I was saddened today to wake up today and hear the news that Ron Santo had passed away. I’m a Cubs fan like the rest of the world and this is news that cuts to the heart.

The Cubs and Chicago will deeply miss him as he is as much a part of Chicago Cubs baseball as anyone in recent history. What also saddens me is that he is equally known as a tragic figure from suffering terribly with diabetes as well as being denied a worthy entry into the hall of fame. I don’t kn0w how the Hall of Fame committee votes on those matters but to be passed over time and time again means that he was at least considered but I know that he was depressed he was never selected.

I think tonight I’ll toast him on his journey and count my blessings.
